Not too long ago almost everyone knew a farmer or some one who knew one. There was a good chance that farmer was a relative.
In those days, most farms were "diversified" meaning the farm family raised more than one or two products for sale. In addition to the main farm activity such as dairy, the farm produced products such as eggs, pork, beef and perhaps fruits and vegetables. The farm family used these products themselves and sold surplus to friends, relatives and neighbors.
There are not many of these farms left today. But new types of diversified family farms are sprouting. Many of these farms raise wholesome products for direct sale to non-farm families who value locally grown fruits, vegetables, milk, meat and eggs.
Caveny Farm raises poultry and lamb. Heritage breeds of turkeys, ducks and geese are our mainstay. Our birds are raised in pastures that grow grasses, clovers and amaranth. All of our poultry are fed custom formulated feed to compliment the nutrients found in our pastures. Corn, soybeans and soybean meal along with vitamins and minerals are the only ingredients in our feed.
